The best single source I've come across so far is Aldous Huxley's 1944/45 "The Perennial Philosophy."
Hi All. It's great to see this site is up and running now.
I'm a member of FirstUU of San Diego, CA, and have been teaching courses on mysticism through the RE program there for the past three years. Some of my students have now taken over and are running the "Mysticism: Dialogue & Practice" sessions themselves on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays (pretty much year-round). If you're in the area, feel free to drop by for discussion, practice and a mystically supportive community.
In terms of resources, I have a website dedicated to mystical theory and practice at http://www.searchforclarity.com. You'll find downloads, links and book recommendations. Mysticism is also part of my private integral therapeutic practice, and there are some additional resources there at http://www.integrallifework.com. Last year I published a book called "Essential Mysticism," and you can peruse its contents at Amazon.com using the "Search Inside the Book" tools.
Here is some recommended mystical reading from the book, listed in order of progressively difficult conceptual or practical material:
The Journey Home, Lee Carroll
The Four Agreements, Don Miguel Ruiz
The Miracle of Mindfulness, Tich Nhat Hanh
The Gift, Poems of Hafiz, Daniel Ladinsky
356 Zen, Jean Smith
The Seven Spiritual Laws of Yoga, Deepak Chopra & David Simon
Miraculous Living, Rabbi Shoni Labowitz
The Spiral Dance, Starhawk
The Bhagavad Gita, Eknath Easwaran
The Essential Rumi, Coleman Barks
Lao-Tzu Te-Tao Ching, Robert G. Hendricks
Total Freedom, J. Krishnamurti
The Mind of Light, Sri Aurobindo
One Taste, Ken Wilber
Will and Spirit, Gerald G. May
Trance, From Magic to Technology, Dennis R. Wier
Mysticism, A Study in the Nature and Development of Spiritual Consciousness, Evelyn Underhill
Cognitive Models and Spiritual Maps, Jensine Andresen & Robert Forman
Hope you enjoy! --T.Collins Logan
